All proceeds go to the Friends of the Library and help support non-budgeted North Platte Public Library projects and services.
Consider giving any amount to the North Platte Public Library (NPPL) Foundation fund at Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation any time of the year. However, May 3, 2023 is the date for the annual North Platte Giving Day – a day when our community comes together and gives any amount to hardworking non-profit organizations and together we help our community continue to be a great place to live.
Update: March 2023 – Progress is moving forward. Some work is being completed in house by qualified City Employees, Otis is installing new equipment, and the Library hopes to have a new working elevator by December 31, 2023. In the meantime, be kind to Library workers and be prepared for some noise if you visit, there is more noise than normal but it means there is progress!
In the fall of 2021, the North Platte Public Library elevator experienced major malfunctions. The Library has spent approximately $5,000 so far in failed efforts to “fix” the aging and heavily relied upon lift. This ancient 1970s technology is hard to find parts for and replace. Therefore, the Library needs new elevator. We want to support their fundraising efforts as this was an unplanned and unbudgeted expense.
The quote to replace just the electronics came in at $112,350 but did not include:
Machine Room work to install HVAC and new disconnect, lighting, and GFCI outlet
Pit Upgrades to install a 50GPM sump pump and additional lighting
Fire Alarm System with smoke heads at each landing floor, in the machine room, and in the top of the hoistway
Therefore, we are estimating the total project cost and fundraising goal to be $300,000.
Please consider donating toward this project through the North Platte Public Library FOUNDATION fund at Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation.
We are overflowing with book donations so you WIN!
This time it will be setup along the West windows in the main area of the North Platte Public Library (120 W 4th ST) and once again we will have a free will donation in place to give what you determine is fair.

It is with regret that we inform you that the Lincoln County Legacies: A Living History Tour (formerly known as “The Cemetery Tour”) set for September 17-18, 2021 has been cancelled.
However, the Pancake Brunch hosted and supporting the Lincoln County Historical Museum on Sept 18, 2021 at the Lincoln County Historical Museum is still moving forward. Visit the Lincoln County Historical Museum on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/npcanteen to keep updated on Museum events.
UPDATE: The tour was cancelled due to a shortage of actors willing to do the performances, as well as a shortage in time available to write scripts. It takes a lot of behind the scenes work to pull these events off and when nothing was coming together, we decided to cancel it. We hope to try again next year.
Due to COVID-19 we are running our “book sale” a little differently this fall.
We are utilizing an open area of the Library (not to be held in the meeting room) and limiting selections to four (4) tables plus wall shelving/display area to help with social distancing.
There will be no media (DVDs, Records, Audiobooks), no items on the floor, and no cash register. But there will be puzzles October 19-23.
New items will fill in according to the schedule above as room allows, so if you are particularly interested in a specific genre/topic, you might want to schedule visits to the Library during the entire week to see more items.
This is a free will donation event with all proceeds going to the Library to purchase new material and help offset a 10% decrease in our materials budget for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
All Friends of the Library (FOL) memberships have been forwarded one (1) year because our best perk is early access to our book sale events, and we were unable to have a spring book sale and this one is being conducted over an extended period of time. However, if you value your membership to the FOL, we will gladly accept your membership dues for the upcoming year.
The Book Bazaar is open during Library Hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
